In the Creative Writing Lab language comes to life! Learners explore their unique perspectives while sharpening their language skills through storytelling, collaboration, and imagination.

Led by a speech language pathologist, Creative Writing Lab is the perfect place for teens and tweens to practice cause-and- effect thinking, perspective taking, vocabulary skills and social communication in a space that celebrates every voice.

Creative writing gives students a voice—and a stage to use it. By shaping their own stories, they learn to express ideas boldly, take pride in their creativity, and see the beauty in their unique perspective.

Logic, Planning, Perspective

Every great story has structure. Through outlining, sequencing, and revising, students strengthen executive function skills while learning to organize thoughts, see multiple viewpoints, and think critically about how stories unfold.

Social Skills and Collaboration

Writing may start alone, but it grows in community. Students share, edit, and celebrate each other’s work—practicing empathy, perspective-taking, and respectful communication along the way.

From wordplay to world-building, writing is language in motion. Students expand vocabulary, improve grammar and syntax naturally, and discover how powerful words can be when they connect meaning and emotion.

Who is Creative Writing Lab for?

The Creative Writing Lab is designed for students ages 9–16 who love stories—or are just beginning to discover their own voice. Each group is designed for groups of 4-8 students with similar skill levels.

Writers should be able to read independently or understand stories read aloud. Students can participate using whatever tools needed to help them succeed—including but not limited to typing, dictating, or using large print materials.

Like all Leap Language Labs, this group is thoughtfully designed for neurodivergent learners and is perfect for a homeschool pod or small school.

Creative Writing Lab is designed to come to you! Your speech pathologist can meet you in your home, school, community center or virtually via Google Meet.
